Not required! Life jackets are provided for all participants. You float on the surface and look down, mantas come up close to the surface (they feed on plankton near the top). The boat captain and guide stay with you at all times. Many non-swimmers have done this safely and loved it! However, you should be comfortable being in open water with a life jacket.
90%+ sighting rate! Manta Point in Nusa Penida is one of the world's most reliable manta ray spots. These gentle giants visit year-round for the plankton-rich waters. Best months: July–October. On most days, you'll see 2-8 mantas with wingspans of 3-5 meters gliding majestically below you. Even experienced divers call this a bucket-list experience!
NOT required! The famous T-Rex viewpoint photo is taken from the top of the cliff, that's where everyone goes and where the magic happens. The descent to the beach below is a challenging 40-minute scramble down steep, uneven steps, only recommended for very fit, experienced hikers. 99% of visitors enjoy the top viewpoint only, and that's where the iconic photos are taken!
The fast boat from Sanur to Nusa Penida takes ~45 minutes. We use reputable, licensed boat operators with proper safety equipment and life jackets. The ride can be bouncy in rougher seas, if you're prone to motion sickness, take medication 30 minutes before boarding. Boats run daily in good weather. In rare cases of very bad weather, trips may be rescheduled for safety.
Yes! While Nusa Penida is smaller than mainland Bali, halal food is available. Many local warungs serve Indonesian Muslim-friendly dishes, Nasi Goreng, Mie Goreng, grilled fish, chicken sate. Our guide knows the best halal spots on the island. The snorkeling day lunch is also halal-friendly. Indonesia is the world's largest Muslim country, so halal awareness is everywhere!
April–October (dry season) is ideal, calm seas for boat ride, clear water for snorkeling, and sunny skies for cliffside photos. July–October is peak for manta rays and chance to spot rare Mola Mola sunfish. November–March is wet season, still possible but seas can be rougher and snorkeling visibility slightly lower. We recommend May–September for the best all-round experience! ️
Swimming at Angel's Billabong depends on tide conditions. During low tide, the natural rock pool is calm and swimmable, crystal-clear water you can wade in. During high tide, waves crash over the rocks making it dangerous. Your guide will assess conditions and advise. Even without swimming, the viewpoint is truly beautiful for photos! Safety always comes first.
Must-haves: Waterproof phone case or GoPro (essential for manta photos!), reef-safe sunscreen (SPF 50+), comfortable shoes (Nusa Penida cliffs = uneven terrain), swimwear & quick-dry towel, motion sickness medication (for boat ride), reusable water bottle, small daypack. Leave heavy luggage at Bali hotel and pack light for the 2-night island stay!
