Sri Lanka surprised me with how much it packs into a small island. My advice: don't stay only in Colombo — the real magic is up in the hill country. If you can, take the train from Kandy toward Ella; it's one of the most beautiful rail journeys in Asia and costs almost nothing. Pair the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy with the tea estates around Nuwara Eliya and a beach day down south near Galle, and you've seen the best of the island.
Practical note: Bangladeshi travelers need an ETA (online travel authorization) for Sri Lanka — goFLY handles the ETA, hotels and the full route so you just enjoy the ride. The Colombo seafront photo at the top of this page is my own, taken in August 2024.
